It's because of the amount and availability of guns.

It makes sense that if you're a cop in the most armed place on earth, where it's perfectly legal to carry a gun in most places ( New Mexico in particular ), chances are the person you're dealing with might be armed.

The statistics are flawed because the scenario is completely different.

2 of these officers are facing murder charges in the first degree. I'm not sure how they decide that but I do agree - as a law enforcement officer I recognize this as a terrible scenario gone worse by trigger happy hoorah wanna-be's.

Do I think it was a righteous shooting? NO, but its hard to tell exactly what happened due to the mixture of less lethal and flash bangs.
