Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
So he had a knife. The cops got guns and have probably gone through some basic aim & shoot training. Could someone explain why the fuck American cops use lethal force in situations like this? Why not go for the legs or a hand shot?

Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
I know of no police agencies in the world that train to shoot anyone, at any time, in the legs or the hand. On top of that, those are extremely hard targets to hit under stress. They either needed to use less lethal options like a beanbag shotgun or pepper spray, or lethal means like firearms. They chose firearms for whatever reason, and according to articles all officers are under a federal investigation for the shooting...which is all that can be done at this point. I am also in agreement they should have taken him alive, but all this nonsense about shooting people in the legs or arms is ridiculous. Nobody trained in the use of firearms is taught to do that. |

Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
I'm not one of those microcephalic morons you see that lives on a diet of gangsta rap, Cheetos, sugered soda and SNAP-benefits junkfood that likes to say, "I hate cops! Yaaaay for cop killers!" but that was overkill. I wonder if the outcome would have been different if this idiot didn't decide to do the tough talking "I'd have the legal right to kill you!" then bringing out the knife bullshit, but it really did seem less than professional how they handled it, as if they wanted to get some target practice in, and give K9 a treat by letting him gnaw on his leg. I found it very distasteful how the cops proceeded here. Did the perpetrator have a history of violence?

Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
I would love to explain exactly why the cops did what they did...it is standard operating procedure for any agency in California to pretty much operate in the exact same manner...it's basically scripted. I saw nothing, and I mean nothing the Officers did that was illegal, against standard use of force policy, of in violation of anyone's civil rights. The amount of ignorant, emotional, anti-establishment, anti-police vomit over this post is both pathetic and concerning. How some many could fail to look at this situation from a logical perspective is astounding and deeply disturbing for the future. I read comments blaming the president, the Federal government, politicians, and police for this shooting. How in the Hell could so many posters fail to watch the clip without emotion and look at what happened at face value without prejudging the officers. Several of the posters are clearly have an agenda and love whipping up the emotions of the others who fail to think for themselves. Let's look at this video clearly and without the agenda. First, I have no idea why officers initially came into contact with the homeless guy other than the police department's press release that he was squatting innan are where it was illegal. When officers contacted him, they observed that he had knives and appeared agitated and refused to comply with their lawful orders to leave. Officers set up a perimeter to keep the transient guy from sneaking away and tried over a long period of time to talk him down without incident. For whatever reason (be it mental illness, drug use, stupidity, stubbornness, misguided ideas, hatred for the police, other whatever else) the transient guy failed to cooperate with officers lawful orders and defiantly stood his ground with a daily large knife in his hand. Now those overly emotional 99%'s on this forum might not understand this, but failure to vacate an area after being ordered to do so by uniformed officers and failing to comply with lawful instruction by uniformed officers is a crime in the State of California as it is every where else in th U.S. When the transient guy armed himself with a knife, he just moved into the felony crime arena. Now up until this point, as far as I know, the transient guy had only committed infractions and light weight misdemeanors. But brandishing a deadly weapon and verbally stating your intent to harm those officers, pushes this squarely into the major felony section of the California Penal Code. Officers repeatedly pleaded and ordered the transient guy to drop his weapon. They brought in heavily armed SWAT officers...the idiot failed to comply. They brought in a K-9 that growled and barked...the idiot failed to comply. They employed a less lethal stun grenade...the idiot failed to comply. They shot him with a less lethal 12 gauge bean bag round...the idiot again failed to comply. When the transient guy made a quick movement toward the closest officers the two covering officers fired their patrol rifles and dropped the idiot. Now here's the part where all the anti-police 99%'s get all hysterical and pee on themselves. The officers shot the idiot in his butt with three less lethal bean bag rounds. Oh my God how could they do that to this poor harmless transient. Well I'll tell you in a logical and emotionless explanation. The transient guy was still holding the large knife. The highly trained SWAT officers, who were on scene, weren't as sure the transient guy was imobilized and no longer a threat as all the hysterical posters on this site, who watched a video tape of the shooting. When the officers received no indication that the transient guy was an obvious threat by hitting him multiple times in the butt with the bean bag rounds, they thought it might be safe to send the $50,000.00 K-9 to bite the guy on his leg and make sure he wasn't faking. Then, when they finally approached the transient guy, you'll notice they forcefully stepped on his arm that was holding the knife, so it wouldn't be a safety concern. It is completely irrelevant what type of patrol rifle the officers used, how many times they shot the transient guy, whether they shot him multiple times after everyone here was positive he was dead, whether they had the dog bite him after everyone here was positive he was dead, or what the initial call was the led to the shooting. The guy committed multiple crimes and a couple of felonies. Officers shot him because HE escalated the situation and HE threatened the officers. Why is it that all he cop haters on this site fail to even slightly examine the situations involving law enforcement and are so quick to blame cops for every shooting or use of force? Come on, this isn't that complicated a situation...the transient guy got just what he deserved and so obviously wanted. Get off your self righteous uninformed spastic soapboxes for a few minutes and use your brains. Cops in the U.S. are not the enemy in all situations, they are fairly reactionary in nature and are usually very slow to react to situations. It seems like a lot of folks on this site just have a giant chip on their shoulder regarding law enforcement, whether from some prior negative contact or some anti-establishment political agenda. This was a really really simple shooting incident and I'm surprised that it generated so much angst and conspiracy theories. End of rant. |

Re: Police Kill Man for Illegally Camping
After looking at the tape several more times, the idiot actually had two knives that he was swinging around. That makes the officer's actions even more justified. You can clearly see him gripping both knives when he was arrested. He was also moving around right before they used the less lethal bean bag rounds. How much more justification did these officers need?
