I said the same thing about Mr Big Operations. Like no fucking way can people keep falling for this!
But I have watched multiple true crime cases where the suspected killer is free because there isn’t enough evidence against them. And then the detectives do this charade of getting friendly with the suspect, inviting them into the fold, and then to please Mr Big, the suspect needs them to tell them their darkest secret in full. And the motherfuckers do it!

I watched the video on youtube with the translated captions on, it wasnt entirely helpful though (i'll include a picture as to what the translation said the cause of the hostage situation was), but there was a point when one of the military guys asked him to take his finger off the trigger at least, so they tried...but I dont think he actually listened for very long.

And the woman at the end seemed to say that she has kids herself and it hurts her to see him pointing the gun at them, but again, I dont know how reliable the translation is.

It's actually worse in many ways, and we have historical precedence to draw upon. It's not the use of priests in actual police operations that is the real issue, it's the fact that this paints a big target on ANY religious figure who gets drawn into something like this.

While it's not a universal trait, I'd be willing to wager that a priest would be among the more likely bystanders to try and help deescalate something like this.
