Re: Police Body Cam Footage of Fatal Shooting 20 Year-old Dillon Taylor
The officer was absolutely within his rights to shoot. Anyone who says otherwise is a troll, a criminal, or an imbecile.

Re: Police Body Cam Footage of Fatal Shooting 20 Year-old Dillon Taylor
Shaking my head over the comments of some in this thread. As a police officer with 20 years experience, let me add my unsolicited opinion regarding this officer's body camera evidence. First off, the officers roll up to the scene and there are three guys together in front of the store, all of who look directly at the officer as he comes to a stop. After stopping, Taylor splits up from the three and starts walking away from the officers along the sidewalk in front of the store. As an officer, that type of behavior would immediate draw my attention to him as Taylor immediately starting exhibiting signs of 'fight or flight'. Clearly Taylor wanted nothing to do with these officers and as the call went out that there was one of the three seen with a weapon, the officer may have drawn an inference that this was the armed male as reported, since the other two maintained their positions. As Cruz and his covering officer approach Taylor from behind, they start issuing him orders during which Taylor moves his hands from his side to his front, UNDER the waistband of his trousers. Had I been there, the pucker factor would have been raised by a factor of ten after witnessing this and I'm sure Cruz's sphincter was tight as hell as well. What happens next is the unfortunate culmination of a perceived threat on the part of the officer and downright stupid behavior on the part of Taylor. After repeated orders to show his hands, Taylor turns around and starts talking shit to Cruz then quickly pulls his hands from his waistband. Cruz was put in an impossible situation by Taylor's actions and the thoughts in the back of his mind - going back to the description of the individuals at the store as received from dispatch. "One had a gun", "One had a gun", were the words that were banging around in Cruz's head during this whole ordeal and I'm certain that he had narrowed down in his mind that this kid was the one with the gun. It sucks all around, for Taylor, his family and Cruz. I'm sure he didn't get up that morning thinking it would be a great day to go out and kill someone. It happened and yes, it is something he's going to be thinking about for the rest of his life. At the end of the day though, he should find some comfort in the old adage we often refer to during situations like this: Better to be tried by twelve than carried by six. |

Thought they would use tazers in those kind of situations over there? Dunno if it just is the gun culture over there or just bad training that makes the US-police so easy on the trigger. Here we have some armed criminals aswell, but still the police ain't allowed to carry anything else than a batoon and pepper-spray. If they need firearms they need to clear it up in the ranks before they can lock it out of their trunk. I guess it works because handguns and so on are strictly regulated. |

Re: Police Body Cam Footage of Fatal Shooting 20 Year-old Dillon Taylor
There are many training videos offered to law enforcement agencies that show the folly of attempting to deploy a taser against a subject armed with a firearm. First off, the five second cycle of the taser would allow time for the aggressor with the handgun to still get a shot or two off after the first cycle, even if you chose to hit him/her again. No, the only real choice of force level when dealing with a subject with a gun is to be ready to deliver deadly force. |

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes... Put your hands in your pants and act like you are hiding a weapon while a cop points a gun at you. Darwin Award! |

I sure wish you'd take over slaying the idiot anti-police, anti-American, Commies, anarchists, pagans, convicts, liberals, progressives, and cannibals cabal here on DR for awhile. I'm getting tired of their retardation and need a break.

Re: Police Body Cam Footage of Fatal Shooting 20 Year-old Dillon Taylor
This seems more of a damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario. The guy turns around, facing the officer, the officer again demands the guy to take his hands out and as he does take his hands out, is when the officer fires. Yeah, the guy could have had a gun and yeah, the officer might have felt his life was in imminent danger, yet the guy complied with what the officer told him to do. |
