A Pile-up Killed Three People on the Palín-Escuintla Highway, Guatemala
The accident occurred on Saturday, March 14th, on the Palín-Escuintla highway. A video that went viral shows the moment the truck crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with another vehicle. Firefighters used specialized equipment to rescue victims from the mangled vehicle. According to initial information provided by authorities and cited by local media, the pileup that occurred on kilometer 53 of the Palín-Escuintla highway killed three people and completely closed one of Guatemala's main logistics corridors. The accident, which occurred on Saturday morning, March 14th, involved five vehicles, including two large tractor-trailer trucks, two cargo trucks, and a pickup truck. The severity of the impact was evident when one of the trucks lost control while crossing the median and entered the oncoming lane, triggering a series of accidents that hit motorists in the area. Images and videos taken by witnesses circulated widely on social media, showing the force of the impact and the condition of the vehicles, with debris scattered across the asphalt. One of the injured drivers recorded the exact moment the collision occurred.
