Who in their right mind charges out the door with a gun like that? Cops are human. They made a split second decision. Neighbor is issue #1 saying it is a violent domestic. SCOTUS said in an opinion the officers must be judged on what they knew at the time, not judged with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight.
1. Call of violent domestic.
2. They knock and yell Phoenix Police
3. Guy charges out of the door with a gun in his hand, pretty quickly after they knocked and identified themselves.

This is a no bill from the grand jury, but there are lessons to be learned.

1. Report facts, don't make shit up to get officers there faster. I worked in 911 and people will often tack on "he has a gun" when asked if weapons are involved, whether or not they know it to be true.
Lesson: "I don't know" is often the perfect answer

2. He may not have heard them identify themselves as they did it while they knocked.
Lesson: Knock while identifying, then yell again while not knocking.

3. He came charging out with a gun. Good guys or bad guys, he put himself into an ambush. If they were hijackers, he would have been lit up the same. I lived in a shady part of town. I had a gun in my hand answering the door and the other person never knew. Why give up a tactical advantage only to out yourself in a tactical disadvantageous position?
Lesson: Don't go charging out of your home with a gun if you aren't immediately intending to start shooting. Even then, that is a horrible tactic. You will lose 99% of the time against armed attackers. Draw them in to your ambush, don't skip into theirs.
4. Started with a loud TV.
Lesson: Be polite to your neighbors. Wear a headset. You can pick up a decent one for five bucks.
Bonus lesson: strengthen building codes to make apartments, condos, or attached multifamily residents sound proof to a certain (high) decibel limit. You would be amazed at the shear volume of loud TV, talking, walking, sexing, eating calls that come in because walls are paper thin. My favorite were the walking in the unit above. Which leads to a bonus bonus lesson:
If you can hear your neighbors and are a light sleeper, apartment living isn't for you. Or you need earplugs or a pillow to put over your head, or a white noise generator. Rent a house so you aren't disturbed or suck it up.

The shooting us an example of human reaction time. It takes between 1/4 to a full second for human reaction to turn sensory input into action except for autonomous reactions like picking up something that burns you. Those reactions build on each other. It is easy to watch a video and say they shouldn't have shot. Entirely different when it is real life that could cost you your life. They put reporters and community activist through reaction shoot/don't shoot drills and they fail miserably every time. They walk away with changes opinions.

Best example of human reaction time is someone hitting their brakes in traffic. As it builds behind them it went from someone tapping their brakes to a five minute or more highway shutdown.

I didn't listen to the 911 calls until the next viewing.
There was more than salsa and Playstation gaming going on if he is hearing doors slam.
The reporter that wrote that hit piece is far from being fair and unbiased.
It was reported as a domestic argument then disturbance, not solely a noise complaint. Technically the officer murdered him, but it will mostly like be a justified homicide and no longer murder. The use of that word in that context is disingenuous and done for shock value. This looks like an article written by a grieving family member.
The deceased's conduct borders on being legal. It may be legal to have an open carried firearm in a holster in a public place, and a gun in your hand inside your home, but stepping out, gun in hand may not. That isn't his front yard, that is a public walkway. Might have been different if it was he had a front yard. I'll concede that it would have been difficult to prosecute him for his conduct, but it does justify the officer's actions.
At open carry protests they aren't walking around with pistols in their hands, they typically have them holstered.
The saying goes is an armed society is a polite society. This shows the result of not being polite in an armed society. Certain impolite actions become fatal.

I do feel sorry for his family. But this is why we have fair and unbiased jurors, or everyone would be convicted by the family.
I feel sorry for the officers too.

This is that video game. I find it hard to believe it sounds like a domestic disturbance...okay maybe a zany disturbance with anvils, dinosaurs, and semis.

Where you don't have guns people will use knives, blunt instruments like hammers, etc. People are crazy no matter where you live. I know if I had to go I'd rather it be a bullet in the head than 20, 30 40 stab wounds over the period 5 minutes.
