Re: Peter Smedley Assisted Suicide
There's another BBC documentary about Dignitas called "The Suicide Tourist". I downloaded it out of curiosity, didn't wanna watch it alone. Guess that makes me a pussy, but I don't really give a fuck. So today I watched it with my girlfriend. Suicide is one of very few things that gets to me. It was tough getting through the whole thing, but I have alot of respect for the people who have to deal with this sort of thing... And to answer a question - yes, the mixture they take tastes awful. The doctors who administer it usually give the patient a cup of apple juice or something like that to mask the taste. |

Re: Peter Smedley Assisted Suicide
As a veterinarian, who has to make this decision on behalf of his patients daily, I see no reason at all why an elderly human, in pain with no reasonable cure available, should not be able to choose to die quietly and peacefully. Not even my patients can tell me with 100% certainty that it is time to go; it's ridiculous that then it's fine for me to take their life, yet a human cannot legally take their own with help to make it dignified.

Re: Peter Smedley Assisted Suicide
One of the most haunting things ive ever watched in my life. This will stay with me for a long time. And I'm usually able to handle and get over just about anything. Beyond sad, but at least he can rest in peace now that his suffering is over.

Re: Peter Smedley Assisted Suicide
I watched both my parents waste away over years and both die at home which I will never return to. It was excruciatingly painful and I made up my mind then that if I ever get to the point where I'm a vegetable, am badly burned, have demetia or alzheminers so badly I can't remember how to chew or who my spouse is, I want to be put out of my misery. We euthanize animals to keep them from suffering, we should have every right to do the same to ourselves or loved ones who agree to it with sound mind. I'll figure the rest out when I meet my maker...
