Not a dig at OP but this is a prime example of the folly of using plural pronouns for individuals.

Whose services was R offering in Chancay? Those of other whores? Those of the murderers? When you use a plural pronoun when discussing one individual and two groups of people, it can only be assumed that the PLURAL pronoun refers to either of the PLURALS.

I'd personally say "R, who offered his services in Chancay" but if someone else would say "R, who offered her services in Chancay," I wouldn't complain or go cry in the shower over it. You can say that women are men and that men are women until the cows come home, i don't care. But throwing away grammar and rendering sentences nonsensical is where the line must surely be drawn.
