Peruvian Political Candidate Shot Dead During Campaign Event
Caraz, Huaylas, Peru A 44-year-old journalist and candidate for the Áncash Regional Government, Susy Y.A.P., also known as "China Polo", was shot to death at a campaign event near a marketplace. At least five people, including minors, were wounded by gunfire. Shortly afterwards, police arrested a 32-year-old Venezuelan national, Luis I.O.D., who was preliminarily identified as the perp. A 9x19mm Glock pistol, which the police had reported stolen, was seized from him. Two other people have been arrested - an alleged financier, and another person linked to transporting the attacker. Days before she was murdered, China Polo had reported on social media that she had been receiving death threats, and identified the head of the police's Criminal Investigation Division as the person responsible for the threats. Said-head has since been reassigned China Polo was prolific on social media, detailing crime in the country, such as organizing crime, illegal mining, and corruption. However, she herself had a criminal record for making false statements and document forgery, both involving suspended sentences. Consequently, she had been excluded from another electoral state for failing to disclose these convictions. |

Hm. MIGHT see the bullet exiting too, in the ‘bang!’ screencap, left side of her head (our right), about 2" out past and level with her squinted eye. Very short horizontal grey streak, not sure it’s 100% path-aligned with the incoming one, might be nothing.
