Re: This is a Painfull Way to Go...
It's not "what" makes America great. I mean there's other stuff too. Well, it's true. It may be the best in the world, but it's still flawed. Not that I have any ideas how to make it better. Sure. Like letting the police do their job, which in this case didn't work, according to a previous poster's explanation. Taking him out myself would be a last resort, and personally, I would never have been sadistic enough to even THINK of setting someone on fire! Whatever method he used to dispatch my loved one is what I would have seen revisited upon him, excluding the rape, of course. |

I do not know what he did but I still feel sorry for him, but also while I was watching this video I was thinking on people who die in accidental fires in their homes and the people who chose to jump from the twin towers than die burned alive

Re: This is a Painfull Way to Go...
I can understand why he felt driven to do it, and so, despite it being first-degree murder (completely premeditated), I feel empathy for the guy and apparently the court did too. That previous poster's explanation was one out of several, so until I see an official article on this, their input holds less water than a pasta strainer. However, if someone did kill my family member/girlfriend/cat and got away with it, something would definitely be on my mind, maybe not counter-murder, but something that would ruin their life rather than taking it. Maybe domestic arson or tying them up and sodomizing them with a metal rod. >:D I highly recommend a Todd Field film called In the Bedroom (2001) if you haven't seen it already. The film was nominated for a shitload of Oscars but no one remembers it anymore. It deals with vigilante justice when a court ruling isn't sufficient and is very disturbing. |

Re: This is a Painfull Way to Go...
I saw that, a long time ago, when it first came out on DVD, and I was drinking at the time, so I don't remember it too clearly. I love Sissy Spacek, and Marissa Tomei though. I'll have to watch it again in the context of this debate. Thanks for the recommendation. BTW, even though we don't see eye to eye on this, I know where you're coming from. Honestly, I could never just douse someone in gasoline and throw matches at them, no matter what they did, or how close to home their actions hit. I just wouldn't have thought of it, because I'm not a savage. |
