Re: Oldschool Electric Chair
The problem with capitol punishment is that not everyone on death row is innocent and these innocent people are put to death.

Re: Oldschool Electric Chair
The giant rubber glove is actually used during an electric chair execution. It's the same kind out glove the electric company guys wear when touching hot wires...in this case they just took off the outer leather glove usually worn over the thick rubber gloves. No mystery. You should see the safety gear the correctional officers had to wear back when they used the gas chamber...that gas would literally eat certain types of rubber (including the door and glass seals of the actual gas chamber). It was chlorine gas as I recall...very corrosive stuff and probably illegal by today's standards.

Re: Oldschool Electric Chair
I figured they didn't need that kind of protection because they would clear the area completely when they turned the power on. Can't be too careful I guess. I bet the gas was a particularly unpleasant way to die because you could feel it burning your respiratory system (if chlorine was used). Thanks for the info, you're one of my favourite posters on here |

Re: Oldschool Electric Chair
Hydrogen Cyanide (HCN) gas is what is used in USA gas chambers, never chlorine gas. HCN is poisonous and difficult to remove from the chamber which needs to be cleaned with another chemical. It can also take 8+ minutes to die from the gas, with the condemned drooling, thrashing about ect. Bring back the firing squad, more humane, a headshot is how I would want to go out given a choice... |
