Also, the only real photo of anyone dying in the electric chair was when Ruth Snyder was executed. A reporter concealed a camera in his pants and took the photo right after she got zapped.

I used to be in favor of the death penalty, an eye for an eye. That's when I was naive enough to believe that cops don't lie, nurses and doctors don't kill, DNA forensic technicians don't lie. I'd hate to be sentenced to death because some lying cop needed to protect himself or his lying buddy and their careers. In Eastern Canada there was a doctor killing his patients during Covid, there was also an old peoples care home lady killing the old people in the home she was taking care of. Yet everyone thought these people could be trusted because of their position, I'm not that naive anymore!!!!

The entire purpose of death penalty is 1. To prevent those crimes, like a deterrent. You kill someone, you will too be killed. Andvit worked up until they started doing the execution in private. The public execution is a big part of the deterrent. And 2. As a bargaining chip during trial. To get the suspect to take responsibility and to explain what happened. You tell the truth, you get life, you lie, you face death. Plus, the people who get that punishment 99.99% of the time deserve it.
