NYC Subway Passenger Acting Erratically Put Into Deadly Chokehold by Marine
Dramatic new video shows a straphanger taking matters into his own hands, pinning down an unhinged man in a deadly incident at a Manhattan subway station this week. The 24-year-old passenger, identified as Daniel Penny, stepped in after the vagrant, identified as Jordan Neely, 30, began going on an aggressive rant on a northbound F train Monday afternoon, according to police and a witness who took the video. According to the freelance journalist who took the video: At this point, Penny, whom sources said is a Marine veteran, came up behind Neely and took him to the ground in a chokehold, keeping him there for some 15 minutes. Neely, who was living on the streets and had a history of mental health issues, lost consciousness after being put in the chokehold, and EMS workers at the station were unable to revive him. Neely had numerous prior arrests for offenses including assault, disorderly conduct, and fare beating. Penny was taken into custody and released without charges. The investigation is ongoing and authorities were waiting on autopsy results before deciding whether to pursue charges against Penny. The cameraman said he had mixed feelings about the encounter: |

Those aggressive nuts in NY have been getting worse, with most committing assault, like this guy, and some progressing to murder. "Mentally Ill" doesn't mean "stupid", and these guys prey on the people they can intimidate with the suggestion of violence. Sounds like this accident was a job related hazard. |

Wait a minute.... they choked the guy to death?. How was this necessary? How was no charges laid? He was unconscious for a lonnnnnngbtime before they let go of him. Since when is strangling someone a legal way if restraining them?

I agree. I assume with his training he had a variety of methods of restraint he could have used or at least eased off when he felt the guy go limp. Over-agressive in my opinion.

Chokehold until dead? Marine training wasn’t as good as it should be it seems.
