There is a deep metaphysical conflict with this line of thought. If everyone acts as a mere agent of fate, and not from free will, then the concept of "karmic debt" is meaningless. One incurs a debt only through voluntary actions for which one is morally responsible. But if all the the actions of the (presumed) person who was later reincarnated as the endangered child were merely done as Fate dictated, there was no moral responsibility and hence no "debt."
