Most Modding duties are tedious and somewhat perfunctory due to the repetition and volume.

But slapping morons around for racist invective and hate speech is a part of the job that I deeply enjoy.

I don't know what the laws are like in the US, but you will get arrested in the UK for racism. So it makes sense for DR to not allow racism (even though still a lot slips through), to protect the site from getting in trouble.

Ah yes, I'm glad I'm not the only one who is irritated by the dickheads here who think just because this is a 'gore' site, then anything goes. A lot of us here have morbid curiosity, we're not here to be nasty about innocent victims or get off on death.

It's not so much a legal issue, I don't think. It's partly personal: the site owner fucking hates racists and he isn't shy about people knowing that.

But even more than that it's about keeping a handle on the shit. A quick visit to most other operative gore sites right now (GG, FG, YNC) or any that have shut down in the past year or two shows what happens when you don't police racist trash and boot it out the fucking door. Every other post at most of those places is N-this and N-that, racist memes spammed all over the place, constant disruption and bullshit.

If you let it get a toehold, it starts getting normalized. Once it starts being normalized, it becomes pervasive. Chris decided early on to put the fucking hammer down on it. It states as much clearly in the rules:

This is not a hate site, if you came here hoping to find a home for your racist or phobic beliefs, you've come to the wrong place, save yourself the disappointment and go elsewhere.

Frankly, I could be about ten times more aggressive with policing it than I am. For every infraction/ban I hand out for racist/hate speech, I let about ten go past. It's tough sometimes to try to strike a balance between over-policing and preventing them from overrunning the place with their bullshit. But I watch for trends and when I find someone that makes a persistent habit out of it, fuck'm.

Same goes for bozos like the one in this thread. He wasn't persistent, as he had only made one post in his entire four years here. But that one post was cursing out, insulting, and slinging shit at a moderator for enforcing the rules that the site owner has laid out. So fuck him too.

I know there's lots of butthurt racists on the site who like to piss and moan about their free speech being oppressed. But they can fuck off to one of the other sites for all I care. I truly believe that DR is better off without them and, fortunately, the site owner seems to agree.

I agree with you and thanks for all your hard work. Makes this place more pleasurable to visit than the others. I stopped YNC years ago.
