Manaslu is one of the more dangerous of the eight thousanders. I think the reaction is more of helplessness because its really hard to expend the energy to help people up there.

I think only one died in this avalanche.

I think where the second death came from was the disappearance of Hilaree Nelson. On the same day as the avalanche but in an unrelated incident, she fell down a crevasse and was missing, later found dead.

Only one source separates the avalanche and Hilaree's death as separate events ( https://snowbrains.com/avalanche-manaslu-nepal/ ) but their source is india.com for the two deaths and The Himilayan Times article for Hilaree's death.
