Re: Mutiny in 3 Prisons in Ecuador, 79 dead so far
There are 5 main narcotraffic gangs in Ecuadorian prisons: the pipos, the lobos, the chone killers and the tiguerones and the choneros. Since Ecuadorian prisons are overpopulated as fuck (there are 41.836 prisoners in a country who has a maximum prisoner limit of 28.500) and there are 1 guard per 27 prisoners... Well, i guess this is something that was to happen sometime |

Re: Mutiny in 3 Prisons in Ecuador, 79 dead so far
Mutiny in three prisons in Ecuador update At least 79 inmates died in clashes between members of rival gangs rioting in prisons in Cuenca, Guayaquil and Latacunga, more than all the deaths recorded last year in the country's 48 prisons. And the viciousness and extreme violence of its members was evident in the images of decapitated and dismembered bodies that soon began to circulate on social networks. "Unprecedented what has happened today," said the former mayor of Cuenca, M. C., referring to the 34 deaths that occurred in the El Turi prison, one of the most affected. But what came together to cause Ecuador to experience the worst prison massacre in its history on Tuesday? 1. Increase in drug trafficking According to Ecuadorian media, five criminal gangs are behind Tuesday's bloody events. They are Los Pipos, Los Lobos, Los Chone Killers, Los Tiguerones and Los Choneros, who are disputing the leadership vacant since the death of the leader of the latter group, Jorge Luis Zambrano, "Rasquiña". 2. Austerity The increase in drug trafficking has also translated into an increase in Ecuador's prison population, which has not been matched by an improvement in monitoring and surveillance capabilities. Rather, as part of the austerity plans agreed with the International Monetary Fund, these sectors have also been affected by cuts that at the time generated a wave of protests. One of the consequences of the lack of resources is that, according to Snai's own calculations, the deficit in the personnel in charge of guaranteeing prison security is 70%. According to the Primicias portal, in Ecuador a prison guide must care for an average of almost 27 inmates, when the international standard recommends a ratio of one for every nine. And that may help explain the relative impunity with which drug traffickers operate from the prisons, as well as the abundant weapons they were able to resort to during Tuesday's events. 3. Overcrowding All of the above is also expressed in levels of overcrowding that, although they have been reduced compared to previous years, continue to hinder the proper management of Ecuador's prisons. According to the Permanent Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDH), Ecuador's prison capacity is 28,500 people. But in May 2019, when the government decreed the first state of emergency, the number of inmates totaled 41,836, an overcrowding of 42% . BBC NEWS Note:There are some videos that are circulating on the net that have nothing to do with what happened in Ecuador, all these videos have been verified before being uploaded. |
