Re: Motorist Enjoying Music Skids on Black Ice and Dies in Crash
Ice of color is super dangerous, better to stay out of areas with ice of color. Hit was on passenger door, see picture. Kinda surprised the driver died. Maybe easy to die if he had no seatbelt, his head could bounce off the pushed in door. Do Toyotas have side impact airbags? Only one dead Russian, but every little bit helps! |

Oops, here's the pic does most of the turd world listen to dogshit, souless music like that? Seems like they do from the videos in cars on DR. The only good music this year on DR was that guy in Central or South America listening to Everly Brothers |

Re: Motorist Enjoying Music Skids on Black Ice and Dies in Crash
As someone who survived a massive head-on car crash at over 50 MPH back in the late 90s, someone who was sporting a broken jaw for weeks, & who's face literally went through the windshield this brought those memories back immediately. Its stunning just how quickly this kinda shit happens. Its milliseconds. I barely had time to yell OH SHIT. My life really did flash before my eyes. I'm guessing same thing happened to him. Oh well. He's going straight to hell anyways for listening to such horrible music.

Re: Motorist Enjoying Music Skids on Black Ice and Dies in Crash
I love the winter car accident posts. Without fail the comments are always stuffed full of dickheads who have never even seen anything worse that a few flurries analyzing the accident and spewing forth their ludicrous uninformed opinions. When you live in a location that gets a proper winter, driving in shitty ass conditions is just something you have to deal with for several months every single year. We can't very well slow down to 20 kph for a third of the year. The state of the roads would be an absolute fucking zoo. So we drive with a little extra caution, but otherwise the same way we drive during the summer months. We must put a little faith in the snow clearing and road safety programs that are in place to make the roads as safe as they can be. Obviously that can't end well 100% of the time, with some local governments being much better at it than others. Yeah, people do crash because of the snow and ice. It's just another daily risk you just have to file under being alive. For the record, that driver didn't do anything obvious that was a big red flag. He didn't look to be going much faster than about 60 kph to me. Looks like he might have just got unlucky. Then again, even on pure ice a vehicle driving in a straight line isn't gonna suddenly funky chicken all sideways on its own like that, so there was most likely some ill advised inputs from the driver that started that spin. Once he got spinning, though, he was just along for the ride. That's just the reality of driving in a proper winter. |

Re: Motorist Enjoying Music Skids on Black Ice and Dies in Crash
I've only experienced it once. Fortunately I was driving a vehicle (Jaguar XF) with dynamic stability control. Travelling at 60mph, suddenly the nose of the car starts moving left, immediate activation of ABS on the right side of the car, bringing the nose back pointing to where it should have been. Happened so fast that it was over before I realised what happened. Without the DSC I would have been upside down in a paddock!

Sorry, I'm from a country that drives on the left so my poor brain keeps telling me the right side is the driver side ... Strangely I can drive in the US without problems ... except for that one time exiting the 405 southbound at Santa Monica Blvd and turning left into the leftmost lanes of traffic! |
