Re: Morgan County Sheriff and Undersheriff Fatally Shooting Homicide Suspect
The guy deserved it, but it was sketchy on the police side. Tough job.

Re: Morgan County Sheriff and Undersheriff Fatally Shooting Homicide Suspect
The first round goes off at 52.5 seconds in on the video. The perp is still in the car. By what the officer said, he could see him with a knife. He is completely justified at this point in firing due to the per being within 21 feet of him.

He didn't raise his arms until well after he had been hit. Once you start shooting you shoot to end the threat. As long as he is still holding the knife, even if his hands are raised, he's a threat.

Re: Morgan County Sheriff and Undersheriff Fatally Shooting Homicide Suspect
I'm 60/40 on this or maybe 70/30. I dunno. In either case, the higher number is because fuck that pile of shit and don't fucking blast your door open like a dick while making fast movements when cops got guns on you, and the lower side of that is Mr. Trigger Happy there from the rear went for the kill just a tad too quick. Just a smidge. But it's always easy to second guess that shit when I have the ability to rewind and replay 40 times. Bonus question: Why wasn't this all over the news-- oh yeah, white guy, white cops. It's cool. |

Re: Morgan County Sheriff and Undersheriff Fatally Shooting Homicide Suspect
This is completely justified. Ever heard of the 21-foot Rule? Statistically, if a knife-wielding assailant is within 21' of you and wants to attack you, you will be wounded or killed. Average time it takes to cover 21' is about 1.5 seconds. Even if you hit him before he's on you, unless you landed an instantly fatal shot, he's more than likely got the momentum, adrenaline and time to stab you before succumbing to his own wounds. |
