Minnesota Man Dies In Custody
The Minnesota man who died in police custody had been identified as 40 year old G. F. A witness to the arrest, Charles McMillian, 60, of Minneapolis, said he saw police trying to get F. into the back of the squad car and heard F. tell them he was claustrophobic. The video shows a Minneapolis police officer kneeling on the back of F's head and neck for several minutes during a forcible arrest Monday evening. F. would die shortly after the arrest. Experts on police use of force told that the officer clearly restrained the man too long. They noted the man was under control and no longer fighting. According to Minneapolis police, the encounter between F. and officers happened shortly after 8 p.m. Monday, when police were called to the 3700 block of Chicago Avenue South on a report of a man attempting to use forged documents at Cup Foods. Officers found Floyd in a car at the scene. He appeared intoxicated, police say. Officers ordered him to get out of the car. “After he got out, he physically resisted officers,” police spokesman John Elder told reporters early Tuesday. “Officers were able to get the suspect into handcuffs and officers noticed that the man was going into medical distress.” An ambulance brought F. to Hennepin Healthcare, where he later died, police say. Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo said the department would conduct a full internal investigation. The two Minneapolis officers who responded to the incident are on “relieved of duty status,” the police chief said. This is different from the typical administrative leave, but is still paid with no law enforcement duties. Update: A report in the Minneapolis Star Tribune*revealed that the officer’s name is*Derek Chauvin, according to “two sources familiar with the investigation" Note: I looked everywhere for body cam to show what lead to the video events. Obviously there is time before the camera started. That said however, as a paramedic it's hard to watch these two officers ignore/not see/disregard all the signs of this man's body shutting down. You can clearly see the discoloration in his face and lips toward the end of the video. I really feel for that firefighter standing there, powerless, helpless to stop what she knew was happening. I didn't find facts that helped me understand the officers state of mind yet. Once I do I will update you guys. Please contribute any facts you find. I would much appreciate. Edits: Video 1 - Shows the officer with his knee in the neck of the victim Video 2 - Shows events prior and leading up to Video 1 Video 3 - Show officers creating a barrier between the home of Derek Chauvin and protestors outside the residence. |

Re: Minnesota Man Dies In Custody
Heard he had just finished jogging when he accidentally signed a bad check and then went for a drive to visit his sick grandmother at her church service. Kidding. If this is as it appears, that looks straight up murderous. No way they're gonna talk themselves out of this one.

Re: Minnesota Man Dies In Custody
Update: The mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, says four Minneapolis Police Department officers involved in the death of the victim in police custody have been terminated. Wonder where the other 2 termination came from? Edit: I just want to throw this out there. I don’t think this is a racial incident at all. To me I don’t see evidence that this is racially motivated. Based on the evidence I have seen so far this event was motivated by a psychotic arrogance, it seems. I am still open to the possibility that there is something out there that may clear the officer. But it needs to be Damn amazing circumstances to counter the fact that this officer (arguably) knowingly killed a man slowly on camera... Re: Minnesota Man Dies In Custody
That skinny armed cop loved the power. I'm surprised he didn't have a raging boner while pinning him, actually he probably did but we couldn't see his pin dick. Usually I'd side with the police when it comes to drunk/drugged up unpredictable people but even when he noticed he'd stopped struggling.. He continued applying pressure for another 5+ minutes! Inexcusable |

Re: Minnesota Man Dies In Custody
You can tell from the discussion at the beginning of the video that they had some serious physical altercation before this. If body cam footage comes out we will probably see significant struggle between officers and the victim that resulted in the officer just being like fuck it. That being said, I'm pretty sure this officer is fucked. I don't see a way to argue that this is justified in any way, and I actually don't think there will end up being much debate about this one. |

Re: Minnesota Man Dies In Custody
Oh, and for people who are going to straight to the race angle here, there are three officers here, the one on his neck is white but the one standing up is asian and the one holding him down and talking to him is.... black.
