can someone tell me why there is not a real deep depression in the ground where some of these people landed? and why some people seem to have "burst" for want of a better word and some seem as though they gently floated down on a cloud?

I'll try. Some people landed on soft soil, but if there's a good sized rock just a few inches below the surface, it will cause more damage than if it was only dirt for a few feet down. Some landed with their plane seats still strapped to them, and that adds more momentum as well.
I'd say some came out of the plane just after the missle hit and landed various places, but the ones that stayed in until the aircraft struck the ground were spread far and wide. There are so many variables, it's hard to say with any certainty.
