There was a case in the UK where a teen was kidnapped, tortured for days, then lit on fire to finish her off. She lived long enough to calmly tell passer-bys who did it to her before dying.

the same thing happened in the US, a woman was burnt alive in a dispute with her trailer park neighbors, who had brought her into the thick of the woods to kill her... miraculously, she survived, managed to scream/hobble her way to a man's house, then lived long enough to disclose her assailants' names & solve her own murder case.  |

I thought she was dead - then I saw her arms and mouth move. Imagine being the doctors and nurses at the hospital who saw her when she came in. Forget finding a vein to stick a needle in. They probably filled her mouth with liquid morphine and hoped it got absorbed, easing her passing.

A decent burn survivability rule of thumb is to add patients age to percentage of body burned, result is the percent chance of death. She had no chance.

The calmness of such severe burn victims, including those referenced elsewhere, make me think the burns mush have destroyed the nerves so they are just numb. Or perhaps it's a form of shock, not unlike the effect of people on Everest that are freezing so much they feel so hot they strip naked as they freeze to death. |
