All jokes aside, can anyone explain to me how you die within a few hours of having being burned like this? She doesn't look like particularly non-survivable shape, but clearly I'm no doctor.

From what I understand, the body tries to "help" itself by swelling (like it does when you burn yourself), but with that much burn area the massive movement of fluid completely fucks with everything. Plus, the development of scarring can limit mobility and literally suffocate you as the skin loses its elasticity. I remember reading about incisions that doctors have to do on the rib cage of burn victims so that they can still breathe once their skin stops being able to stretch. |
