Police officers in the UK manage perfectly well without firearms, and in a situation like that one, would’ve gone into the premises with a drawn taser, some pepper spray and a helmet.

Because Americans are dumb enough - and paranoid enough - to be armed to the teeth, these kind of deaths occur in your country by the dozen every week.
