That right there shows signs of premeditation. It no longer qualifies as self-defense. It's the same thing that happened with Michael Drejka, who got into a scuffle with a black woman who was wrongly parked in a handicapped spot. When he confronted her about it, her husband came out of the store where he'd been shopping and instantly pushed Mike to the ground, who promptly pulled out his gun and shot him dead. Drejka could have just let it be, walked away, he didn't HAVE to pull out his gun.

The Dutch courts will hammer him for this because what you stated is partially correct. He had enough distance to further his escape attempt, and certainly after the first shot he had the advantages of surprise, aggression and speed. So to argue that the following 4 shots were necessary will be almost impossible. But he can argue the first shot with some mitigation, because he was not being aggressive but rather he was under threat of serious harm, as far as the video shows. In any event he is now in restrictive custody which means he can not make any phone calls and is only allowed contact with his lawyer. Without knowing the backstory, I think it’s likely he will get about 10 to 15 years with mandatory psychiatric treatment. If he refuses to cooperate with psychiatrists he may be looking at a far longer detention. (Yeah this is Europe where jail sentences are bullshit weak and do absolutely nothing to deter criminals) but it is what it is. I will update here when this goes to trial.

Strange amphetamines would be considered "soft" by a government. I knew an addiction specialist and he said he never had much success getting people off methamphetamine, more addictive than heroin as he told it. But then, Keith Richards once said he could quit heroin but quitting smoking was too difficult.

Food for thought, medical researchers have said your brain can't tell the difference between cocaine, methamphetamine and Ritalin (methylphenidate)
