Half of my family is in Barcelona.....I remember when they shut down the plaza monumental bull ring. I think it was 2010 when Catalonia banned bullfighting, but that ban was overturned.

picador: a bullfighter on horseback who pricks the bull with a lance to weaken it and goad it.  Picadors do their work before the matador even arrives on the scene. The bull bleeds profusely for a period of time. This way the matador gets to "fight" a bull in a weakened condition.  True, the bull is doomed. But, at least, he took one down before he left.  |
