A group of bandits living together attacked Segen in the Jakmel area of the Marigo Block. They killed five people and reportedly also destroyed a police station.

On April 14, 2026, heavily armed groups linked to the Viv Ansanm alliance aka Living Together attacked several villages in Haiti’s Southeast department. At least 7 people were killed during recent incursions. Gang members filmed themselves celebrating the attacks, signaling an expansion of their territory from Port-au-Prince into previously stable regions. The Viv Ansanm coalition is a powerful alliance of gangs (formerly G9 and G-Pèp) that has united to seize control of the country and oppose the current transitional government. Jacmel, known as Haiti’s cultural capital, it is now under direct threat as gangs try to choke off supply routes. Residents are fleeing these areas and the Haitian National Police are struggling to maintain a presence in the rural zones of the Marigot block. The UN reported that between March 2025 and mid-January 2026, more than 5,500 people were killed nationwide. 1,424 killed by gangs. 3,497 killed during anti-gang security operations and 598 killed by vigilante groups or mob violence. Since 2021, the cumulative death toll from gang-related conflict in Haiti has reached approx. 20,000 people. That country is forever lost. |
