Exactly! The police are not there to prevent crimes and keep you safe. They may be able to do both of those things at times, but that's not what they're required nor able to do much of the time. Self-defense is essential, as this lady found out the hard way. There are firearms secured at every entrance to my house, and in most rooms so my wife is able to defend herself and the children should a problem arise when I'm not there.
