Re: Man Who Jumped Off Bridge Tries, in Vain, to Rescue Himself
For example, in this video, it took 28 seconds to pass out. His last gulp of air was at 22 sec and the final drop was at 50 sec. I figure drowners black out when their final drop starts, because that is when the arm flailing stops.

I just can't understand how. you live on an earth covered with water for decades and just think learning how to swim isn't something that could ever be useful.

Re: Man Who Jumped Off Bridge Tries, in Vain, to Rescue Himself
I grew up on a farm so learning how to swim was like learning how to run for us. I am very buoyant, although I am small I almost can't sink. I was learning how to scuba dive but had to give it up because of all the weights I would have to use just to get down to 15 or 20 ft. If I get tired swimming, I just lay on my back for a while. If I let myself drift I can nap for up to an hour on the water. Although I don't do this in open water as I do not want to get run over by some boaters. I think this guy got exactly what he wanted, to bad he changed his mind, there are no take backs on death. |

All the swim skills in the world won't help if there's a powerful undercurrent, it will drag even the most proficient swimmer to their death. Given the way he speedily disappears this points to such an example.

Re: Man Who Jumped Off Bridge Tries, in Vain, to Rescue Himself
You can do literally nothing but hold your breath and stay afloat. I’ve floated for countless hours in water of all kinds. Quick deep breaths and lay on your back on surface of water and gaze at the sky. I’ve never understood how even non-swimmers can’t just float. If they understood how easy floating is. I think that guy had something else going on. Either hurt himself on the fall or intoxicated.

Re: Man Who Jumped Off Bridge Tries, in Vain, to Rescue Himself
This always happens in the DR drowning threads. No matter how classic the drowning scenario, the peanut gallery starts throwing in the debunk theories: Undercurrent, cold water paralysis, pulled under by a gator, immobilized by an injury, drunk, drugs, heart attack. Behold my doubters, this is exactly how a non-swimmer drowns! |
