But it was likely the coveted African Grey (Psittacus Erithacus) Central Africa is home to the Congo African Grey (pic 1) and Timneh African Grey (2). No idea if that's what kind of bird it was but it was the right size. It's likely the bird did not survive, especially if the guy still had it in his hand when he hit the ground. They're incredibly sensitive creatures with hollow bones. The initial snatch he made probably injured it, then you have the electricity and the fall.

Many people in that area trap them and pluck them from the wild like this for the illegal pet trade. Many die in the process of smuggling them.

Personally I feel the guy got what he deserves. Fuck him.

Thanks for that, I didn't consider the poaching angle. That just makes the dude a stupid asshole lol. It's like those folks that risk looting disabled fuel trucks..sometimes that fuel catches fire and dozens of people die or those who try tapping into power lines for the "free" energy.. if you got the balls and skill, go for it...but I draw the line at poaching. He likely killed that bird because of his own ineptitude.

I didn’t actually perceive this video as him trying to save the bird, I thought he had other motives. Birds perch on things all the time.

I don't feel sad, because this was a more than clear situation: no matter what he does, the bird will be frightened by the grabbing, so when the bird reach the power line, both of them will be dead
