Re: Man Trying to Catch Bird Gets Fried by Power Lines
Ugh that was hard to watch. There are many wild parrot species in Africa; Cape parrots, Senegal, Lovebirds, Jardine's, Greater/Lesser Vasa, Ringnecks and many other from the Agapornis, Poicephalus, Psittacula groups. But it was likely the coveted African Grey (Psittacus Erithacus) Central Africa is home to the Congo African Grey (pic 1) and Timneh African Grey (2). No idea if that's what kind of bird it was but it was the right size. It's likely the bird did not survive, especially if the guy still had it in his hand when he hit the ground. They're incredibly sensitive creatures with hollow bones. The initial snatch he made probably injured it, then you have the electricity and the fall. Many people in that area trap them and pluck them from the wild like this for the illegal pet trade. Many die in the process of smuggling them. Personally I feel the guy got what he deserves. Fuck him. These two are a part of my rescued flock, 16 years old.
