Re: Man Takes a Shot to the Back of the Head
That's a REALLY good point. Because most of the BLM efforts are local, and small scale, they are generally pretty honest. People start an initiative because they want to see a change in their local area, usually. Most of these people are working just in their neighborhood, and typically there isn't a lot of money there. So I would say that the vast majority of BLM projects are going to make progress, even if it is slow. But the idea that fat cats are going to skim off the donations is not very realistic, because I would estimate that most projects are operating on budgets of less than $1000 total. There are a few larger ones, such as getting ALL kids computers (no, not just the BLACK kids. ALL THE KIDS) but there are normally so many people involved that have a stake in the situation (School parents, teachers, ministers, Boys and Girls Club members) that I don't think there will be that much skimming going on. As you can tell by the lack of general knowledge about these, there is very little publicity of these tiny projects, so it's not like some big, national charity has been set up to filter all the donations, and take a big cut. Most small neighborhood groups are working for free with the donations they can get, and doing what they can. |

Re: Man Takes a Shot to the Back of the Head
I hope you are correct. But I don't see the small groups getting the donations where apparently it would be put to good use. I see a very few organizations collecting all of the money. I understand what you are saying about small groups with very little in donations doing the most good. I look at organizations like Susan G, that collects hundreds of millions, pays it's founder and E board way too much, and the only mission accomplished is suing small groups for using the pink ribbon. I've yet to hear of a woman with breast cancer that had a Susan G pink Mercedes taking her to chemo. Lots of individuals and small groups give rides. It wouldn't even be hard. Susan G could just contract Uber and Lyft to do it, they just have to let go of some of that money. But then they can't afford all their black tie galas and such, that attract all the celebrities. This is what stands in the way of justice and equality in this country. |
