Re: Man Stomped to Death by Elephant
I can't say for certainty about this particular incident, but captive animals aren't always for the amusement of humans. Endangered wildlife are held captive to preserve genetic diversity that would otherwise be lost. The options of captivity are not always what we would consider preferable, however. Add that into traditional human-animal relationships in which these things happen rarely enough its just accepted. This isn't a black and white issue. Also, mods, please append the OP with Wondermom's news clipping (page 3). Thanks! |

Re: Man Stomped to Death by Elephant
Most entertaining Thai animal incident since that fey thai guy put his arm into an alligator's mouth during a show saying to the crowd how trustful his alligator was and what a master he was over his animal when suddenly- well, you know what happened next |

Re: Man Stomped to Death by Elephant
NOt quite. Horses, elephants, goats, giraffes, sheep etc regularly have their intelligence levels overstated. They're fairly sentient animals and should be treated with love, Vets say. I didn't get the sense this elephant was punishing an abusive trainer. Is there a history to him mistreating the Elephant? Orca whales, many primates and some birds do have the ability to desire revenge and pursue revenge. But to abstract information out of a previous moment and apply it to the present is much more rare in nature than it seems. This animal appeared nervous, curious but not vengeful. It's my understanding that pigs & goats are examples of mammals that are intelligent and would hurt you if they physically could. But gain, animal science folks say that an average crow lurking in the rafter might be plotting against you more than the massive steer snorting at you in the night while you pee your little overalls.

Re: Man Stomped to Death by Elephant
Further down in the thread I posted an article stating that this wasn't the elephant's handler. It was some dumb fuck on vacation, who decided it would be neat to go pet the cute wild elephant who didn't know him from Adam. lol Resulting in a neat little video for the world to see. Regardless, I appreciate your clever observations.
