It could look a lot worse than it is. The spinal chord is tucked way in from the rear of the spine (which is all that’s exposed) the rest is tissue damage. The face well that’s mostly tissue damage, but I think I can see the sinus cavity so that could be an issue but no major structural or organ damage, he’s good to go after some stitches
