in Florencia, Caquetá, Colombia. The attack was captured on security cameras, and the cause remains unknown. The victim's identity.

He seemed to be having a rather peaceful and reflective moment right before the end, and it doesn't look like he saw it coming. Could have been a lot worse.

Jose E.L.C. was killed out of revenge as he was an ex Farc member. Many ex Farc members have been murdered as reprisal or revenge killings by individuals/groups bitter about the kidnappings and massacres carried out by the Farc during the 50 year conflict and after the 2016 peace accord. These killings often occur in zones formerly controlled by the Farc. As illegal armed groups (like the ELN or the Clan del Golfo) fight for control over drug trafficking routes or coca cultivation. Former rebels are targeted to eliminate local leadership or potential rivals. Sometimes killings are attributed to Farc dissident groups targeting former comrades who stayed in the peace process, viewing them as traitors. Sometimes former members get killed because they possess sensitive information about past massacres or drug trafficking that could implicate others in future trials before the special jurisdiction for peace.  · |
