You're probably right; a fragmentation grenade would cause more pitting and scratches in the surrounding concrete.

I threw a fragmentation grenade when I was in the military. Remembered being shit scared of it. There were anecdotal stories about guys who froze and refused to pull the pin. My hands were sweaty just holding the handle against the body, after pulling the pin.

I don't know how this guy thought it was a good idea to play with one, even if there was a koala involved.
