The bottom line is that the dad didn't know if this guy, who actually was attempting to VIOLENTLY break the door down, was in a deadly or deranged state of mind and would have attempted to kill his daughter. He did exactly the right thing. Drunk, drugged, crying, depressed, broken-hearted or whatever - the ex-bf had a choice and chose violence in initiating an event that gave someone else the legal right to kill him. These days with so many active shooters and discord in the nation, it's what most people would have, should have done instead of waiting like a dumb ass to see if he could be calmed after his forced entry. It would be foolhardy to take that chance in this day and age.

Completely justified in my opinion. But I'm curious how the law will look at it. After the 1st shot, he was retreating. Homeowner still fired 2 more shots. One of which was to the back. Deserved it? Hell yes! Legal? I don't know, I really hope so.

Castle law or stand your ground law. Varies by state. Some states are very strict and require you to attempt to retreat before firing. You must believe your life is in mortal danger.
