Yep. Seen is several times. The sand people knew we were wearing plate carriers so they would spray under vehicles if you were crouched behind and I have seen people hit in the thigh or worse. They would literally be dead in seconds. It's so hard to get a tourniquet to work because the artery is so deep within the muscle. You have to get it cinched in the groin and the hip bone doesn't help. Even Corpsmen have trouble with it. Someone would get hit like that (and mortar rounds/shrapnel is worse because it rips the artery) and you could drag them thirty feet behind a building or into a shelter and you wouldn't even know it but you had been dragging a dead man for fifteen of those feet because he was already bled out. |

You can close the femoral artery off just inside the hip, towards the corresponding groin with direct pressure. Still not easy.
