Unfortunately, this belief is why so many kidnap victims don't put up a fight, unaware that statistically, being taken to a secondary location significantly increases the odds of being murdered. This guy's best shot at survival would've been to resist being taken at all because no one was going to help him out of that scenario unless some factors effecting group psychology changed.
