Re: Man Dies Of Heart Attack On Stairs

I have worked in cardiology the past 20 years, more specifically, the Cath Lab, in which we are required to take emergency call for patients such as this poor fellow. Statistically speaking, if a patient experiences a cardiac event (such as this), you have less than 10% chance of surviving an event outside the hospital according to the American Heart Association. The odds may double if CPR and an ACD are readily available and on hand, but most of the time they are not. Do not depend on first responders to bring you back to life as there are many different protocols they have to follow to diagnose such an event...(I'm saying they don't always get it right the first assessment and chances are, too much time has already passed to preserve myocardial tissue). Eight minutes tops for successful or partial reperfusion. The majority of odds are stacked against you. Who wants McDonalds?

Not calling you out brotha, but I have to disagree. Genetics are the number one cause for heart disease and myocardial infarction. That is fact. I know...I work in a Cath Lab.

Re: Man Dies Of Heart Attack On Stairs

I watched my boss go about 15 years ago. He was a heavy smoker, heavy drinker, and he drank coffee like it was water. The doctor said it was the coffee that did him in. He was 35. I was a cashier at a restaurant and he came out and was checking on tables just fine. Then he came back around to the front, did what appeared to be a couple lunges, then face-planted on the corner of the bar counter as if he was going for the world record for most teeth knocked out in a single bellyflop.

I was on the phone with paramedics after that and watched as the bus boy and a waiter did everything and everyone else stood around. They were most concerned with the gash on his face and the knocked out teeth. I don’t think they realized then that his heart stopped or checked for breathing or anything. Folks thought he tripped and busted his face. It was a mess.

Anyway, paramedics picked him up and we found out he was dead the next day. We had a new boss before he was even buried. In case any of you think you’re important and that people won’t get along without you. They will.
