Re: Man Crushed by Elevator in NY
Probably remembering the other video of a teen who was caught in the same position this man was in. He did not die right away, it took some time. The video is on here...as are some other deaths by elevators. One or 2 where the person got decapitated. And a few where the person falls down the elevators shaft, either on purpose for suicide or an accident. |

Re: Man Crushed by Elevator in NY
WHY in the name of all the "instincts to live", wouldn't you just fall backwards into the lift car when you realised what was happening ? He literally hangs on to the side of the frame, as if he's going to just stop the fucking thing when it comes to rest on his shoulders ! I know everybody says "you have to be in these situations to see how quickly it happens - you don't have time to think logically like that" ..... but fuck that - my instincts would be screaming to let go and fall back into the carriage. Poor bastard, that's no way to leave this earth. And how lucky is the guy wearing the backpack who exits first ?? The elevator car starts to fall the split second his leading leg clears the doors. The luckiest man, and the unluckiest man in NYC, both within inches of one another. Such are the vagaries of "fate".

Is MythBusters still around? Let's petition for you to be in a live reenactment of what went down.

Re: Man Crushed by Elevator in NY
Maybe. Often times, unless its shown the hotel didn't have their elevator serviced, or failed to do something they were notified about. The maintenance of the elevators is subcontracted out to service companies. And in most cities the city requires them to follow certain codes and service guidelines. I don't know the particulars, but the lawsuit could fall on the service company. And in both cases, they are likely insured. So it wouldn't be the hotel paying out. I mean, this is what insurance is for. Someone being torn apart and smashed by your elevator. I work in the auto industry. A competitor of mine had this I'm guessing shitty employee. Who pulled this customers car around for them when they arrived to pick it up. The customer was waiting next to the building, and the employee pulled into the parking space with the customer waiting in front of that space . I guess he had a momentary lapse of some sort and instead of putting it in park. Just started to get out with it in drive, realizing his mistake, hurried back into the seat to hit the brake but in his haist, hit the gas. Smashing this lady between the bumper and the building. Breaking both her legs and giving her a severe head wound. She ended up dying a few weeks later. I guess it caused a blood clot in a major artery. And that family tried like hell to put them out of business. But the insurance covered them. I'm sure the insurance companies do risk assessments, and found that if a company does a good enough job as far as safety. That the chances of such an accident happening again is extremely low. So why drop them when you can double their rates and recoup some of that money. |

Re: Man Crushed by Elevator in NY
Watching it slowly you can see he's alot closer to being out than in. It looks as if he's out, but is falling backwards into it again. I'm sure he's thinking I got both feet and arms out, I'm going to pull myself out. If someone was behind him to give him a little shove, he might of survived. |
