he actually made room for her to get out too, but she took on the ex - once out the door, there was no way he could have come back, especially after being stabbed a couple of times himself. the adrenaline alone probably meant he had no idea she wasn't behind him for a few steps . . . the pain/shock from the attack would have done the rest
