I have heard of lumbermen in Thailand, who used their elephants to move logs, and the elephants and the men got along VERY well, and the elephants were well taken care of. One of the lumbermen got cornered by a tiger in the forest, and thought he was about to die, when to his surprise, his elephant showed up, (It must have been quietly following him, and also must have known that tigers were in the area and were close, so it worried about it's Mahout.) and literally stomped that poor surprised tiger right into the ground, saving the guy's life. I guess THAT'S when you know your elephant likes you. Extra peanuts THAT night! |
