Re: Little Girl Films Dad Drowning

Guarantee he accidentally got water down his passageway when he pushed off then tried to recover and only made it worse. Reminds me of when I almost drown.

Re: Little Girl Films Dad Drowning

How is this even possible? He was Soo close....
I'm not even sure he's dead but yeah the little kid was worried at the end
Bruh... look at him.

Just like there wasn't enough room for Jack on the door, there wasn't enough cliff for the dad.

Actually...wtf...
there was totally enough room!!@

But, uh... the cliff...still not enough cliff.

Re: Little Girl Films Dad Drowning

or the water was cold?
perhaps that was the problem - he certainly looked like he could swim

individuals all react different to cold water and for some it can be very distressing, particularly if there isn't anything to grab onto while struggling to regain your ability to breathe. you can swim all you like and yet it feels like you are going backwards when in fact, you are just not going forward at all

Re: Little Girl Films Dad Drowning

His breathing sounded panicked almost immediately, like he realized he was out too far, but ended up burning too much energy trying to get back to safety.
jumping into water that is too cold for the individual, while being a good temperature for everyone, else does that you - you do not panic until such time as you realise you cannot breathe . . . and then what breathing you can do becomes irrational and on and on and on it goes

when i used to water ski, doing a bank/dry start was cool, but even when the outside temperature was only around 15 degrees celsius, i would have to jump into the water before hand. it made the actual ski freezing, but if i came off half way, the shock when i felt the cold water was very uncomfortable - if i wasn't wearing a buoyancy suit it could easily have ended up like this

even in summer time, this can happen - i imagine it also has something to do with being effectively in the middle of nowhere, with nothing to grab onto. whether it is a combination of that and the cold water, i do not know, but this looks to be a very plausible situation to me. perhaps the gentleman should have eased himself into the water from a beach type setting, and not just jumped in where it would be difficult to regain his feet

either way, this can easily happen jumping into a pool, falling into the middle of a lake/river while doing water sports, jumping out of a boat to swim with dolphins or in the case of this individual . . . you cannot predict when it will happen

Re: Little Girl Films Dad Drowning

Probably the same reason why white people can’t dance, jump, bathe, stop killing innocent school children, people and their parents or cook.
For some reason black people arent the best swimmers. Not sure about the science of it but you just dont see black people swimming at the olympis etc

Cold water doesn't make you suddenly forget how to swim. Plus, where in the African continent is there cold enough water to shock someone stupid?

There IS however several places where poisonous volcanic gasses accumulate near water sources.

Re: Little Girl Films Dad Drowning

Imagine struggling for your life, floundering and wailing frantically in the water. You don’t see any way you’re going to be able to get to safety and know you’re probably about to drown. You look up at your child laughing, giggling, thinking that you’re playing some kind of game and she’s making a video of you with your own phone. Your muscles’ lactic acid is burning and you know it’s almost over now. You’re about to die in a dirty swimming hole all because you were trying to look like a hero to your child by showing you can swim.

Fuck, the terror he must have been experiencing.

The part that's close to Antarctica. Also basically everywhere else during the night.

----

But seriously... you're right, hypothermia isn't going to make you forget how to swim, it can make swimming incredibly difficult though. I ended up looking into it more after it was mentioned in the thread. And I still think he was a negative buoyant novice swimmer, but hypothermia might actually explain his actions (and inaction):

Some symptoms:
- Cognitive issues, such as memory loss, confusion, difficulty speaking or the inability to focus.
- Exhaustion and drowsiness.
- Clumsiness.

The problem is, I have no clue what the temp of the area or the water is, and the only thing that I can see that hints it could be cold is the pink shirt/sweater/jacket the girl is wearing, and her shadow looks like she might be wearing some kind of knit hat but idk, it's not strong evidence lol.
