Believe me, Iraq wasn't "unwinnable". If our ROE had been lifted, and total war tactics allowed, we would have flattened every living thing and every man made structure in that shit hole, and there would have been almost nothing the insurgency could have done to stop it.

You fail to realise these people started from that point onwards to feel it was the Iraqi people against the invaders as they knew once one town was raised another would follow.

How hard would you fight an "invading" Iraqi. Syrian or other nation if they landed in your country? Why should they not feel the same?

No... I don't think that war should have happened at all. I don't think we should be intervening anywhere that isn't a necessary ally. And I think that if you're going to go to war, you should commit to beating the piss out of everything even remotely resembling an enemy, our don't get involved at all.

To all those complaining about the tactics I say this: The Phillipine warriors that fought the US Army in the early 20th century probably called the US Army cowards for using guns. Hell, the M1911 was developed specifically to kill Phillipine tribal warriors because they were so goddamn hard charging.

They fought the US using infantry tactics and guess what? It was stupid because they couldn't face off against attack helicopters, heavy weaponry, expert marksmen and one of the world's best fighting forces.

If Americans were brave enough to one day demand a violent change to their government because of its domestic tyranny, it is only logical that they would use such tactics.

You have one force that needs to expend massiveresources to stay in operation and has a timeline due to domestic political pressure for "results"; then, you have an enemy who has all the time in the world and can tie up an entire company of soldliers with a few hundred dollars worth of materials an a squad of guys.

It's just what it is.

Personally, Iraq is a disaster and I don't think there's a good outcome. The US did a huge favor to Iran by getting rid of Saddam and now Nouri-al-Maliki completes the Shia crescent that extends to Damascus and Southern Lebanon. As to whether it will hold with what's going on in Syria and al-Anbar, who knows?
