At least thirteen people were killed after Kenyan police fired at protestors rallying in opposition to a finance bill that would raise taxes, according to the head of the Kenya Medical Association, and a section of parliament has gone up in flames

An angry crowd broke through police lines to storm parliament in the capital Nairobi before setting parts of it ablaze.

In an address on Tuesday evening, President William Ruto said all means would be deployed to "thwart any attempts by dangerous criminals to undermine the security and stability of our country". He has deployed the military to quell the protests.

Protests against an unpopular finance bill, which includes several tax rises, have been ongoing for days. But they escalated on Tuesday as MPs passed an amended bill. Protesters broke into parliament, vandalising the interior and setting parts of the complex on fire. The ceremonial mace, symbolising the authority of the legislature, was stolen.

The bill initially proposed to introduce a 16% sales tax on bread and 25% duty on cooking oil, but these measures were dropped. The bill also initially added a charge on products - an 'eco levy' - which contributed to waste and environmental harm, with some critics noting this was likely to raise the price of diapers and sanitary pads. The Kenyan government says the eco levy will now only apply to imported products.

However, the government has gone ahead with an increase of import taxes, and a 16% tax on goods and services for the direct and exclusive use in the construction and equipping of specialised hospitals with a minimum bed capacity of 50, which many Kenyans worry will lead to higher healthcare costs.

Rather than trying to use any modicum of intelligence they might have in order to overcome their problems, they decided instead to use violence, (ON EACH OTHER I would add,) killing each other, and to destroy the building and property of the government…

But, hypothetically speaking, did they think that killing each other and destroying a government building would make the taxes go away? Or their lawmakers to disappear??

And they STILL want the civilized people of the world to believe that they can be educated… but it’s even worse than that…
The majority can’t even be civilized, never mind educated.
