Re: LASD Shoots Woman with Knife in Her Home

Unfortunately, LASD is equipped with 9mm ammo. It has more penetration but much less stopping power than the .45cal ammo that other law enforcement uses. Police protocol requires shooting at center of mass until the threat is neutralized.

From personal experience, when the target is amped up on drugs or simply a rush of adrenaline it usually takes three or more 9mm rounds to bring them down — Whereas, I've seen a grown man lifted off the ground by a single .45 to the chest at 10 yards. It's a dynamic property of hydrostatic shock.

This is what alarms those officer's carrying 9mm handguns: ⇩
Even if the human body absorbed 100% of the momentum of a .45 ACP round, it doesn’t even come close to having enough energy to lift a man off the ground. Any motion by the shootee would be from reflex, not the round. It is a simple mater of physics. Not even a 12 ga slug would lift anybody off the ground, even it was shot straight up. Momentum = mass x velocity. It a little thing called physics and I happen to have a degree in it and I’m a gun nut. Gunshots only make people fly around in the movies or if you are shooting considerably large calibers.

I understand your amateur knowledge of physics might help your billiard game, but I've dealt in matters of ballistics and human beings for over 32 years and my objective real life observations and experience trump your ignorant theories. I win.

How exactly does the horizontal energy of the round fired from a distance magically turn into vertical energy to lift a body off the ground vertically? . Also, since every action has an equal and opposite reaction, when you fire a .45 ACP round does it lift you off the ground? Not even close. Honestly, I don't even care what you think. Clearly, your "32 years of experience" is from watching Django Unchained.

There's no shame in the fact that a complex concept like "hydrostatic shock" is simply way over your head. Allow me to reduce it to something more on your level of understanding...

Even a fuckin' cannon ball didn't send that guy flying into the air. It looks like you just found a wonderful counter-example to your argument. What you really need is a psychiatrist, probably because your mommy didn't love you because you are a poopy-pants crybaby.

Re: LASD Shoots Woman with Knife in Her Home

You certainly are a puerile sore loser when it comes to intellectual discussions and hard facts. The image obviously demonstrates that you can be lifted off your feet by horizontal impact. An idea even a child can comprehend. It was never suggested that there's vertical propulsion involved such as in your asinine assumptions. You clearly can't handle logic.

I don't like to insult people with such special needs like yourself, but seriously just go back to watching cartoons and drooling applesauce and leave the mature informed discussions for the real adults.

Re: LASD Shoots Woman with Knife in Her Home

Yes, unfortunately I've had the experience of shooting three people. The last person was hit with a single round of .45 and went down, but survived. I do still carry a concealed 9mm for the smaller size and weight, however I only use a .45 on the job.
I had the awful experience of hitting a few thieves and worse with a 38. The sound of the gun is nothing in comparison to the slap/thud/squish of heavy metal on flesh. I'll never forget it and feel for anyone who has to do the same, unless in a theatre of war.
The police are tasked to do the same and they have terrible choices to make. Glad it's not me.
Thank you law enforcement.
