I live in Indonesia on Java (Jakarta) where this happened and I can say this is 100% accurate of the attitude of the people that end up like this. They never care if the barrier is down or not and they will just cross if they don't see something immediately in front of themselves. People crossing the road do it and motorbikes and cyclists do it. They have this attitude that whatever is coming will just stop for them, or that the barrier has been down for a while and they'll just cross because they think it's an error.

This is a good example of how people react when the barrier is about to come down. The loud two two two tone alarm is warming people to clear the track because a train in coming.
