He's just an impatient idiot. I saw the longer version where the gate arms are already closed for at least 2 minutes before he appeared with his pedicab.

Found news article.
the victim pushed his pedicab from the south by fighting traffic flow mepet with a barrier between Ahmad Yani Road with railroad tracks.

At that time, the position of the gates was closed because there will be a commuter train that will pass.

"Suddenly the victim who intends to cross the road to the frontage immediately pushed his becak/ pedicab inbetween the railway gate arms," said a witness.

At the same time, the commuter train arrived until the victim was hit by the train and the victim died at the scene.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did this on purpose. It looks too obvious to be anything else... He could clearly see the train coming, heck, he was watching it come! He obviously knew the traffic barriers were down since he went around them... It just looks too much like suicide to me.
