Twelve police officers and dozens of protesters have been killed in violent protests in Kazakhstan as Russian troops were sent to the country in a bid to stop the fighting.

Explosions and gunfire were heard in Almaty, the country's largest city, on Thursday in another day of unrest. Government buildings were stormed and set ablaze as protests against soaring energy prices escalated.


One of the deceased officers was found beheaded in a deteriorating situation which poses a growing challenge to authoritarian rule in the Central Asian nation.

After breaking into the presidential residence and the mayor’s office in the country’s largest city Wednesday, demonstrators continued to try to storm more buildings overnight. Several dozen people are believed to be dead and many more injured.

“Dozens of attackers were liquidated,” police spokeswoman Saltanat Azirbek told state news channel Khabar-24, using a term common to describe the killing of people thought to be extremists.

ALMATY, Jan 6 (Reuters) - Fresh violence erupted in Kazakhstan's main city of Almaty on Thursday as Russia sent in paratroopers to put down a countrywide uprising in one of Moscow's closest former Soviet allies.

Police in Almaty said they had killed dozens of rioters overnight into the early hours of Thursday morning. Authorities said at least 18 members of the security forces had died, including two found decapitated. More than 2,000 people were arrested.

After a night of running street confrontations between protesters and troops, a presidential residence in the city and its mayor's office were both ablaze, and burnt out cars littered the city, Reuters journalists said.

Just watched some reportage on U.K. news websites..
The war corrspondents/reporters/camera personnel/ should be more widely recognised for the real dangerous work they do [and are in], in order to bring news from war zones [those officially " recognised", or otherwise !!].
I remember watching a documentary from the guy who was with Marie Colvin when she was killed,and he seriously injured...and the courage and help from the locals who largely are unknown .

Naw, man. Those correspondents are roaches who feed upon the decay they themselves incite. There is a direct cause and effect between the "news" they report and the tragedies they precipitate. I'm not saying the reporters personally cause the tragedies, but they are the ambassadors and propagandists of those who do profit from the death and destruction. If you haven't seen it yet, you will just as soon as something "newsworthy" happens in your neighborhood. You will never again be able to ignore the stench of the "news" and their gleeful manipulation for profit and power.

TLDR; Fuck reporters. They are not heroes, they are adrenaline junkies who whore themselves out to powerful people and do their propaganda.
